The END ADDICTION BHAM Walk 2024 presented by AmFirst has concluded. Thank you for your continued support for this event. Stay tuned for the 2025 announcement! In the meantime, here's a recap of this year's event:

END ADDICTION BHAM Walk 2024 presented by AmFirst!

Join us on April 6th at City Walk BHAM as we walk for those we have lost, for those in recovery, and for those who have yet to find recovery. We are walking to raise awareness of the substance abuse epidemic we are facing. This is not just about drugs and alcohol… this is about our future.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the CDC reports that Alabama saw a 16.93% increase in drug overdose deaths, yet again proving that Alabama is still in crisis. Our END ADDICTION BHAM Walk allows community members to come together and fight back. Partners and attendees of this event know that we are FIGHTING FOR THE FUTURE we want for our loved ones and for our community. Join us at the Walk and join us in this movement as we fight against addiction in 2024.

The End Addiction Bham Walk presented by America's First Federal Credit Union is a FREE event hosted by the Addiction Prevention Coalition.

This important 8th annual event raises awareness and funds to help combat the addiction epidemic in Alabama. When you participate in the Walk, you become a vital part of an organization doing everything within our power to save lives through:

Prevention Education (Adults and Students)
Matching people in need with Resources
Awareness Events around the State
Prevention Groups in local Schools

We need your help! We would love for you to partner with us by raising funds for this walk or through donations. To donate, click HERE.

CHAMPION FOR THE CAUSE

Birmingham native Taylin McCarver is a true champion for substance misuse prevention, addiction recovery, and grief due to the loss of loved ones to SUD. Taylin lost her brother, TJ McCarver, to his 8 year battle with substance use disorder in 2018. TJ’s struggle impacted his whole family. Since his passing, Taylin has made it her mission to speak out and let other families experiencing similar struggles know they are not alone. She wants people suffering to know that they do not have to suffer alone. Each year, Taylin spearheads TEAM TJ in an effort to raise money for community programming, raise awareness about SUD and grief, and raise hopes for those who are fighting their own battles. And for these reasons, Taylin is our 2024 Champion for the Cause.

EMCEE

Lauren Sisler is a two-time national award-winning sports broadcaster who joined ESPN and SEC Network in 2016 as a sideline reporter for both college football and gymnastics. Lauren is passionate about sports, but even more passionate about telling the stories of the coaches, athletes, and fans who make it more than a game. Her journey was not always full of victories and celebrations. In 2003 as a freshman at Rutgers University, tragedy struck Lauren’s world when she lost both of her parents to overdose. Through her grief and despair, Lauren found the courage to continue moving forward and find success. Lauren now shares her story across the country in hopes of spreading awareness while breaking down the barriers that stand in the way of us living our best life.

Lauren is also an alum of the APC Board of Directors and supports charitable causes across Alabama and the US. Learn more about Lauren at LaurenSisler.com.

In Memory Activities honor and remember loved ones who have lost their battle to addiction.

Our Angel Wings sculpture allows attendees to write a message to their loved ones on a ribbon and attach it to the frame to create a beautiful pair of angel wings that represent and honor those who are no longer with us.

The Flag Garden holds one flag for every Alabamian lost to overdose in a one year period.  Write the name of your loved one on one of these flags in memorium. In 2021, Alabama lost 1,333 community members to overdose. We are working hard to reduce this number every year.

Additional activities are being added, so keep an eye on APC's social media sites to learn more! Do you have an activity idea you'd like to share with APC? Send us a message at Carie@apcbham.org!
